How to Floss Your Teeth

The surface between the teeth is not easily accessible when brushing. Flossing is a good way of reaching these areas and removing the debris, which is the main source of plaque and tartar. Besides debris removal, using floss also gives people the opportunity to closely examine their teeth, gums and tongue. If you are looking to start or have recently taken up flossing, here is some useful information on the topic.

Choosing the right floss

There are many types of floss in the market. To pick the right thread size, one should examine the gap between the teeth and select a type that will fit in those gaps well. A dental tape may be suitable for larger gaps, while a waxed floss may be suitable for tighter gaps. People who have dexterity can use a flossing aid that eliminates the need to use both hands.

Using the floss

Before brushing teeth, take several inches of the thread and round it at the end of the fingers. The gasping of the thread can be done with the thumb and pointer finger. To remove the particles from the gaps, slowly rub the floss between the teeth in a continuous motion. During this exercise, one should try to ensure that the thread does not snap because this can lead to tissue trauma.

Technique

The position of the hands is also something to consider when flossing. The thread should be angled in a C shape and slid up and down, ensuring that it goes up to the gum. After doing one gap, the same procedure should be repeated with other gaps. To make it easier to keep count, one can carry out the exercise in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction.

Disposal

After finishing wt=ith flossing, it is important to dispose of the used floss so that it cannot be reused by anyone. This practice of disposal ensures that the particles (and any germs) removed during the cleaning are not reintroduced into the mouth of anyone sharing the bathroom/ toilet.

After flossing

After the flossing work is done, brush the teeth and rinse with either clean water or a mouthwash. However, brushing is not compulsory, so one should not skip the flossing exercise because they do not have their brush with them. In most cases, doing both is good and one is not better than the other.

How frequently should we floss?

There is no set limit for flossing. Try to floss the teeth at least once in a day to ensure that the gaps between teeth are clean and free from bacteria. Gum disease can develop in people of all ages, but gums can be protected from developing diseases by flossing on a daily basis.Flossing has several health benefits for our body and therefore should be done on a regular basis. The entire exercise is fairly simple to follow. Before selecting a product, you should consider the thread size that will suit you best.
