Currently experiencing a denture issue and looking for some solutions? There is definitely a learning curve when it comes to wearing new dentures. While it really is not difficult to properly take care of dentures, they do require care just like our natural teeth do. One of the more important things that you need to keep in mind when wearing dentures is to make sure that your mouth is always clean. Your mouth should be cleaned before putting in the dentures and should be cleaned again after taking them out at the end of the day.According to the American Dental Association, available options for using dentures to restore a person’s smile include removable dentures or implant-retained dentures.

Solutions to 3 common denture issues

The following are solutions to three of the more common issues that dental patients tend to experience with their dentures.Common denture issue #1 – the dentures are not keeping their shape. The solution? Make sure to put the dentures in water anytime they are not being worn. Dentures need to be kept moist in order for them to retain their initial shape. A quick note: never use hot water when soaking dentures as this can also cause them to change their shape.Common denture issue #2 – the dentures are getting in the way of the wearer's ability to speak properly. The solution? Practice, practice, practice. New dentures are likely to feel strange or awkward for the first few weeks, making it necessary for new denture wearers to practice their regular everyday habits in order for them to feel confident when wearing their dentures.Common denture issue #3 – the dentures are making it difficult when it comes to the wearer's ability to eat or drink. The solution? Practice eating and drinking when at home in order to avoid any embarrassment when out and about. Eating soft foods for the first week or so is suggested, as well as trying to chew equal amounts of food on each side of the mouth so that the dentures are less likely to slip.
